Hey Fellow Shipmates,
Members of the INDY's CR
Division, Norfolk
Detachment, held their Spring 2009 Micro-Reunion
at No. 1 Chinese Restaurant,
Wards Corner,
Norfolk, VA on 23 Apr 09. Members attending the
event were Brad Turner, Ken
Loomer, Roy Dowell, and Kurt Merkling.
A personal inspection was
planned, however, since everyone was extra hungry, we decided
to forgo the inspection in place
of standing in line for early chow.
Sea stories were many. Topics discussed included past
duty stations, CW Speed Key licenses,
closure of the Navy's LF and HF
transmitter sites, Brad Turner's need to attend myriad
USN
Government (MARMAC) high-level
meetings, USS INDEPENDENCE's Antenna Maintenance
crew (circa 1978-1980), and
Smile'n Jack's (impressive) methods of instilling crew moral
during deployment.
Upon completion of lunch,
mini-boss held an all-hand's award ceremony (please see
picture).
All crew members in attendance
receive awards. In detail, Brad Turner receive his 1979 INDY Med
Cruise patch, Roy Dowell received
his INDY Ship's patch, and Ken Loomer received a coveted
INDY A/C Launch photo previously
autographed by YNSN Wilson. All items originally came from
the INDY's
Ship's Store.
Prior to our All Hands/Master
Orlando, FL
June 2009 Reunion, a follow-on micro reunion will be
scheduled for the Norfolk
detachment. This reunion will include more awards and also a
review
/reading session of several Naval
Telecommunications Bulletins (Communicator) dated from
1974-1980.
We're all looking forward to
being together soon,
